Lenovo Vibe K4 Note First Impressions

Lenovo has kicked off 2016 with the new Vibe K4 Note smartphone. Those familiar with Lenovo's Note series might get puzzled with the addition of the Vibe moniker to the name, especially given the success of Lenovo K3 Note last year. Head of Product and Marketing at Lenovo Smartphones in India, Anuj Sharma, clarified that the new K4 Note has been integrated with the Vibe series of smartphones. While we are not sure if this has anything to do with the rumours that Lenovo may discontinue its Vibe range to prevent cannibalisation of Motorola sales, Sharma yet again asserted "Vibe" range is not going anywhere . Lenovo at the Delhi launch event on Tuesday also showed some statistics to show how popular the Lenovo K3 Note really is in the country. The handset was the third most searched phone in 2015, based on Google's release data for India , and the company had sold around 1.2 million units. W...

iPad Pro Review

The iPad Pro is, at first glance, completely crazy. A giant iPad with all the limitations of iOS, coupled with added bulk that makes it harder to tote, and a price tag that starts at Rs. 70,000 , all make it a hard sell. That's only the starting price though, and you're going to end up paying a lot more for this tablet. Realistically, you should get the 128GB model, which costs Rs. 79,900, and also the Apple Smart Keyboard , which will set you back by Rs. 14,900. Artists, designers, and others might also need to buy the Apple Pencil , priced at Rs. 8,600 - which means a final price tag between Rs. 94,800 and Rs. 1,03,400. At that price, you can't really compare it to the iPad Air 2 , the last 10-inch model to be released, with an MRP of Rs. 49,900 for the 128GB variant. ( Also see : iPad Air 2 Review: Still the King of Tablets ) But if the iPad Pro is nearly twice the price of the iPad Air 2, then it's also giving you a lot more, aside...

Twitter 10k? Twitterati say save it for ‘War and Peace’

The global Twitterati set their sights on Twitter, widely decrying a reported plan by the microblogging site to blow out its length limit to as much as 10,000 characters. The plan, first reported by Re/code late on Tuesday, sparked huge traffic on the hashtag #Twitter10k, with most of the posts there pleading for Twitter not to lift its long-standing 140-character limit. “Dear Twitter, Let’s not,” wrote Lab Girl (@LeanN_Mean) in a typically concise post. Another Twitter user, Carl Bövis(@CarlBovis_AFC) tweeted: “10,000 characters Twitter?!! If I wanted to read War and bloody peace I’d ditch my phone and go to a library!” Many users cited examples of materials that will turn up on the site if it runs its length limit up that far. “If twitter expands to 10,...

Soon, a panic button in mobile phones to help women in distress

Women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi has managed to get mobile phone firms on board for providing a panic button in handsets by March that will send alerts to police in case of emergency. Regulations in this regard will be issued by the department of telecommunications soon, Gandhi said. The plan that has been finalized with the consensus of mobile manufacturers will help address the issues of women’s security as both new and existing phones will be able to install the enhanced feature. “It took us one year to finalize this initiative. We held several meetings with mobile companies and they have finally agreed to provide panic buttons in mobile phones,” she said. “If a woman feels she is in trouble, the only thing she has to do is press that button and it will immediately send a message to the police,” she said. Gandhi said while the new handsets will come with in-built buttons, cust...

Microsoft is likely to have your Windows 10 Recovery Key: Report

It has been pointed out that Windows 10 users using their Microsoft account could be putting their privacy at risk as the built in disk encryption feature in Windows 10 is set to automatically upload your recovery key to Microsoft’s servers. According to a report by The Intercept , the fact that new Windows devices require users to backup their recovery key on Microsoft’s servers is remarkably similar to a key escrow system, but with an important difference. Users can choose to delete recovery keys from their Microsoft accounts, something that people never had the option to do with the Clipper chip system. But they can only delete it after they’ve alrea...

Google Glass 2.0 Spotted in Images at US FCC

Multiple reports from earlier this year claim that Google is working on the iterations of the Google Glass headset, including one specifically aimed at the workplace, called the Enterprise Edition. We may now have the first glimpse at what this upcoming device could look like. An FCC document published this week shows a version of Glass that looks similar to the first generation Google Glass , though it comes with a hinge that allows it to be folded, making the device more portable and mobile. As seen in the images in the FCC document , the second generation Google Glass is almost identical to the original Google Glass, retaining the nose bridge and glass prism. The new hinge can be seen in all the images in the document. Other notable differences include the change of the position of the power button, which has been moved to the back. As you may have surmised, the first generation of Google Glass could not be folded. The glass prism mounted on top is ...

Start-ups target Christmas shopping procrastinators

COLMA, Calif. – As the clock ticks down to Dec. 25, procrastinators and those simply short of time can turn to online retailers, including some tech start-ups, that provide nearly on-demand service. For last minute deliveries, “Amazon is the leader of the pack,” said Greg Aimi, an e-commerce analyst with Gartner. However, a small flotilla of startups stand at the ready to come to consumers’ aid. Curb service In a crowded Target parking lot in Colma, just south of San Francisco, Sandra Cunanan tried out Curbside the week before Christmas. The service allows users to order from hundreds of stores nationwide, then in two hours or so drive to the store and either pick up their purchases at a will-call desk inside or have them brought out to the curb. “I’ve got a 4-year-old,” Cunanan said, gesturing to her son in his car seat.  Most stores have far too many enticing items at grabbing level, she said. “If I set foot inside Target, I’ll come out with someth...

Apple's Live Photos now work on Facebook

Fans of Apple's Live Photos feature for the iPhone 6S will have one more place to view images: Facebook. The social network is rolling out the feature to a small percentage of users globally before it reaches a broader audience in the new year. Users running iOS 9 on their iPhone or iPad can view Live Photos from the Facebook app. Live Photos are posted in the same manner as regular photos, by clicking the Photo option from Facebook's News Feed. Before posting, users tap on the lower right corner of the photo that reads Live to upload. Introduced with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus launching in September, Live Photos captures brief moments in a video clip before a photo is taken. The feature is also supported by Yahoo's Tumblr app.

WhatsApp back in Brazil after temporarily block

WhatsApp back in Brazil after temporarily block  DE JANEIRO: WhatsApp is back online in Brazil. A Brazilian judge struck down a lower court ruling that temporarily ordered telecoms to block the popular messaging service, snarling communications for many of its 100 million users in Brazil for about 12 hours. The lower court in Sao Paulo state ordered WhatsApp blocked in connection to a criminal case because it wouldn't hand over user information. Details were murky as the case is sealed, though local media reported it concerned an investigation into Brazil's most powerful drug gang. The original judicial order came as part of a law enforcement investigation in which Facebook Brazil was ordered to put a wiretap on certain WhatsApp accounts, according to the company. WhatsApp can't do that because it doesn't store messages sent on its service, and it encrypts all messages so that no one, including anyone at WhatsApp, can intercept or read them. On Thursday afternoon,...
